The Dems really need somebody a LOT sharper and much more nuanced to be their voice in the House than Pelosi.

They could also use someone as sharp as Mehlman to be their party spokesman. Mehlman never says anything without considering every contingency. Howard Dean just spouts off and doesn't think about what he's saying until later.

The Democrats want to be seen as the party of competency after the disaster of the last 5 years. Putting seemingly incompetent people out front and center of the party achieves exactly the opposite.
