The government's $800 billion drug prescription plan wouldn't be necessary if our Medicare System was actually allowed to do what major consumers are usually allowed to do in a capitalist system---NEGOTIATE!!!!

If what you say is correct, then this would be a MAJOR PROBLEM, indeed!!

But it stands with my premise that when government politicians are given too much power to dictate prices and interfere with market economics, then competitive bidding for services and products is negatively skewed.

But I still don't see why private HMOs would face such limitations with regard to negotiating the best price for drugs. It's in their financial interests to pressure drug suppliers to provide them the best price available..
