My 5 year old P4 1.8 was still pretty fast. On the new box, apps do not seem to load as fast as I thought, even games, you can't run them with all graphics on high, still a bit choppy. My system is 8 months old, but I noticed this right off the bat. There is no spyware on the system, its checked all the time, if I were you get the fastest chip you can afford. That was my mistake, should have spent an extra 300-400 on a speedier chip. Maybe I just demand too much. My last upgrade was a P2 450 to a P4 1.8, now that was a big improvment in speed. This last upgrade was ho-hum!
