Joan and Country boy: FrameMaker related thoughts.

First, I am not sure if there is no upgrade. Yesterday, I received the announcement for FrameMaker upgrade. I will definitelly do the upgrade and I am pretty sure a lot of others will do the same.

This particular software is largely ignored on this thread. I am not sure how much of ADBE's income is currently from FrameMaker. However, FrameMaker is one of the software that will have a large growth potential (along with Acrobat) on the Windows market. There are large number of academic users (faculty and graduate students) who basically use nothing but FrameMaker (Microsoft Word is a joke compared to the Graphics, Equations, and Text capability of Frame IMHO), and pay roughly 300$ a copy. I know several universities with site licenses of more than 1000 copies. Mac was big with academia, and with the popularity of the Windows on campuses surpassing the unix boxes a lot of people are simply moving to Windows and buying Framemaker for Windows.

For adobe, purchasing frame was one of the best decisions. Integration was probably painfull and costly, but I think it will pay off rather handsomely if it is not already doing it.

Good luck.
