I liked Crime and Punishment too.

You might try L&O Special Victims Unit again. At first I didn't like it because I thought Mariska Hargitay was too intense. However, I saw her play it several different ways and came to respect her acting ability, along with the other principals. I especially like The Captain.

L&O Criminal Intent also has some good plots. I like the way they sort of trick the perps into convicting themselves by looking the other way as if they are going to leave, and then 'accidentally' picking up an innocuous item and baiting the perps with it.

My wife loves "Seventh Heaven," which is supposedly a family show with strong moral values. I can't stand it, and I can't stand the characters in it.

My favorite show since JAG went off the air is NCIS. It's a military equivalent of CSI, but it has a wonderful sense of humor over very black subject matter. It's not without its tense moments either, such as when one of the key characters got killed by an assassin. One thing about NCIS is their rather brazen product placement. Starbucks and some fast food chain must pay big bucks to get their coffee cups in prominent view.
