A military force is not trained to keep civilian peace. The US military has the least bit of training to do so. Their contact with the civilian population is only to provide aid in times of natural calamities. Their training is to show compassion towards the civilian population and not "shoot to kill"

But in countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia etc., I have known the military being used to perpetuate the rule of those in power. The military in those countries are called out to quell public violence arising out of public protests. They maintain curfew with orders of "shoot to kill". The same as they do in a battlefield.

There is another aspect of why I think the Arab military will do a better job than the US military in Iraq. The Arab military personnel look like the Iraqis, they pray like the Iraqis and hence will be viewed as one of their own by the insurgents.

Enquiring minds such as yours truly would like to know why Bush and Cheney have taken on the entire responsibility of post-Saddam Iraq on their shoulders instead of inviting others to share the responsibilities?
