If you have ever driven north to south the dialects soften. That harsh boston accent and still harsh NY softens as you get into philadelphia and then baltimore. Then to the south. The southern drawl vs the boston/ny accents always signified to me something more about the pace of life in different regions back then rather than the origins of the folks who lived there. The $64 question is where the TV newsman accent comes from? For the most part you cant begin to tell where any of those dudes originate.
