I think actually polygamy started in the Mormon church due to an imbalance in the numbers of women versus men was my understanding. It was then ended in 1890 by the LDS church which then spawned the reformed LDS church which is the folks still doing their thang today in Utah that they are trying to crack down on finally. The biggest problem today is they are such a fringe group that they are marrying each others daughters at young ages, etc to keep with their beliefs.

In other words the folks of today are actually a bunch of pedophile perverts that are using a bastardized form of religion to feel ok about what they are doing.
