John-
Actually, the Oct 5 calls will cost 1/2 each. That's the asking price. The Nov 5 calls are 11/16 each, so depending on your opinion of the time horizon, they both seem like decent "values." But NM has LEAPS now, and the Feb 98 7.5 call is selling for 5/8. That seems like the best deal for the gambling types. I'm tired of trying to guess when this darn stock is going to go up. For now, I have no plans on lengthening my position with calls. But I believe that the 8-K revelations may have some effect. But I would have thought that Thursday's announcement would have done something, too.
On a fundamental note, relating to NM's business (it's nice to see that they are still operating), I saw one of their infomercials today. It was a "Quantum Television" production for the "Do-It-All" food processor/blender/mixer/whatever. It slices! It dices! It costs $100. I thought that it looked pretty good, actually, and I rarely order things from TV. I am considering buying it, so I think that it's likely that A LOT of other people are buying it. It should help NM, assuming the infomercial reaches enough people. A great product & price are only half of the story, the programming logistics are the other.
Anyway, underneath the phone number was the website address: quantumtv.com , which conveniently hasn't been updated to include this product. But NM does allow online shopping (it's fairly lame). But before today, I've never seen an infomercial present the website address, so no one knew what their website was. It took me months to find it. Maybe CUC has been giving them some hints about online shopping. Regardless, NM management is (or was) just plain pathetic.
I'd never before seen the "Quantum Television" promotion during the informercials. They say something like "TV you can trust," and then they say "Quantum Television--Choose Wisely. Live Well." That's the same line NM used to throw out on their website, saying that investing in NM could be a good decision. What a load of CRAP.
