You write as if not adding a new "windfall profits" tax on oil companies is akin to taking something away which government depended upon before. Not so. And its worse. Taxing by taking some fraction of these profits would amount to a drop in the bucket compared to the literal MULTIPLES of said profits which government already collects. Somewhere in this you just might find the funds to accomplish your goals, without adding the relative pittance extra you are so determined to believe is necesssary.

Please allow me to apply your phrase "exhorbitant and outrageous" to the taxes government already takes from the oil business.
