When the Priors and the Woods and the Lees are healthy; when the Kenny Loftons come over late in the year to reenergize the club for the stretch run – this is when managing is easy.

Joe Torre wouldn't be winning with this team either. Look at the statement above -- the Cubs have lost 3 of the most dominant players in baseball to injury, and the writer thinks Baker should win anyway?

I'm not a huge fan of Baker after he basically talked (whined) his way out of SF during the World Series year, but blaming him for the Cubs' woes right now seems pretty short sighted from here. Give them Wood, Prior and Lee, and they're a different team. Take them away after the team was built around their anticipated presence, and they'll struggle mightily.

By the way, the Cubs are the first team in recent memory to go after Bonds every time he was at the plate tonight. I'd guess that Baker told his pitchers to challenge Bonds and let the chips fall where they may. If so, he'll hit is 714th in the next couple of days, and Baker will congratulate him afterward.
