TJ, I am having to think what to do. The new New Zealand capital gains tax could well be called the Maurice Winn Capital Gains Tax [and I am sure they would have used our case as an example of why the tax was "needed"]. It has really put the cat among the pigeons: stuff.co.nz

I'm probably going to invest in a NZ telecommunications venture [which I've been trying to do for a decade] so in a way it's a timely situation as I'll need to repatriate funds to do that.

It will be sad to part company with QCOM, if it comes to that.

Or, part company with New Zealand [which might be the best course of action]. I imagine that there will be quite a few Kiwis deciding that they are no longer welcome to live in their homeland [other than as state serfs].

There is already a constant flow of Kiwis to Oz and the pace will accelerate. Today, Oz also announced tax cuts. So the pace will surely accelerate. NZ will be left as a nation of bludgers, trying to feed off the carcasses of fewer and fewer die-hard producers.

The NZ$ has already dropped from US73c to US63c [dead-cat bouncing up from US60c]. I expect that the drop will continue.
