As I understand it, the cable modem hook-up will be tremendusly faster than anything you can get strictly over telephone lines. I believe data will be sent to your computer via your cable and you will communicate with your ISP via telephone. The cable modem combines these features. Since you tend to transmit less data than you receive, you'll notice impressive resultes with the cable modem. Check out the compairison: caa.net then click on "Why enter this Business"
