Voter Registration Laws for Citizens are Not Unconstitutional

Betsy's Page

A group in Arizona is challenging an Arizona law requiring those registering to vote to show documentation of citizenship. Somehow, they don't think that the measure, passed in an initiative in 2004, designed to see that only those who are actual citizens get to vote in Arizona is constitutional because it might discourage people from voting. I'm not sure what documentation is required to prove that you're a citizen, but I don't see how it is unconstitutional that a state with many, many illegal immigrants would try to make sure that non-citizens don't get to vote in elections. The fact that Hispanic groups want to strike down such a law indicates what their real motivation is - they are fully in favor of making it easy for non-citizens to vote.
