Nope. We are now at the very heart of the matter.

At the heart of all meaningful discourse here is whatever you and I, and people like us have chosen to support or withhold support from anything, and ultimately what we allow to be manifest into our society via our representatives. Will that be worthwhile or will it be the whittling things this generation has wrought upon the world up to now.

Certainly we can pick a camp and lob grenades forth and back and forth again over the brush; but the targets are evasive and we generally cause rampant destruction and deterioration of the scenery without actually accomplishing anything more. If that is enough to keep us wheeling about and we are all happy with that status quo (I am not), by all means let us continue.

Currently we have this two sided coin where the supporters of one side try to help their representatives 'get away with' all kinds of things that violate the best interests of the citizenry, while simultaneously trying to keep the other side of that coin from getting away with anything ... and visa versa. This explains why tolerance and acceptance of corruption has become status quo. It is more of a contest of who can get away with what, than who will provide the most honorable leadership and direction going forward.

Generally corruption flourishes when conditions are favorable for government or corporate representatives to serve their own interests rather than perform their duty to serve the interests of their constituencies.

It is the responsibility of our representatives to stand and represent our interests without ever allowing themselves to be influenced or gratified by anything that would cause them to conduct themselves in a manner that contradicts our interests (at least when in that role of representative).

When we are willing to take a stand against any and all breach of this trust relationship as a violation of the social contract regarding representative and the constituency of citizenry, without regard to ‘parties’ and such nonsense, we might be able return our efforts in a way that contributes to this great and noble experiment in human liberty.
