Not to take away from the article you posted Searle, which was dated 1999, but I understand that since then, in some instances, reverse migration is also taking place, that is Jews returning to Russia and East Europe, and in apparently significant numbers. The reasons for return to Russia and East Europe is because of increased opportunity and wealth in Russia, along with, of course, home sickness. They apparently feel safe enough and do not expect problems like antisemitism? Then there is also a problem within Israel between "European Jews" and others apparently, with claims of discrimination etc.

Understandably, most Jews wishing to emigrate from Israel and elsewhere desire the U.S. But, I suppose it all can change in an instant depending on world political events.
