The sentence you quoted is pretty innacurate. Kopin's GaAs activity is highly specialized - their area of expertise is the production of GaAs epiwafers that are sold to companies that make heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs). And while they seem to be doing quite well at it, I doubt that they have 90% of the market.

There is some discussion about HBTs incomparision to MESFETs (which is what Anadigics makes) over on the RFMD thread.
