Without a doubt, polygamy degrades women. It sends those gullible females the message that they have so little value they can instantly be replaced by someone else.

No more than easy and frequent divorce.

What if the surplus wives informed the husband they were inviting another man into the household?

Polygamy isn't inherently incompatible with polyandry or just group marriages of some sort.

I'm not a fan of polygamy, or any other form of group marriage. I do think that polygamy tends to be degrading to women, and the other forms tend to cause problems to when they do occur (which is rare). All I said was that polygamy isn't inherently degrading to women. To say otherwise is to say that there isn't and never has been even one polygamous marriage that wasn't degrading to the women involved. As much as I don't support polygamy I think that's silly.
