At least with divorce, for a period of time, the female was given respect and loyalty. With polygamy the bride is forced to live on a daily basis with the other women in her husband's life...and their children. It's completely unnatural and uncivilized, and has survived simply because the females were brain washed from birth to believe it's a normal lifestyle (by the male-dominated society).
