The real thing? The real thing is that dealers of bullion and coins take too big a cut to really make physical a good investment. small guys get suckered in at 11% to buy and 11% to sell bullion and coins have a 30% spread. Sure a bull market will make buyers feel smart but that does not make it a good way to go.
