Dig deep and you will find that those "environmentalist" groups are funded by interests with other agendas. The major environmental groups such as greenpeace and sierra support offshort windfarms. Studies in Denmark where windfarms are ubiquitous show that birds avoid the big slow blades so long as they aren't camouflaged or designed in a way that makes an attractive nesting site.
