I think you are misrepresenting. Hector indicated they had some plans for a future challenge, w/o going into details.
The answer was (paraphrase), "Well, we're going to do something 'fun', but not exactly the same as before, you know, blah blah blah."
The right answer, assuming AMD (Hector) thought they would win a performance challenge in the future, was: "Yes."
WTF would he not want to "go into details"?
I'm telling you, you've got all the big 3 AMD execs admirably not willing to lie (no one likes the SEC coming around), but making it very clear that they do not expect to have a performance lead in the near future, by what they WILL NOT say.
Or rather, will NO LONGER say. They used to say, "We are confident we will maintain the performance lead in <future timeframe>"
You can argue about the severity of the performance deficit, at what point it might be corrected (K8L?), and what the impact on business will be from a reversal of perf leadership positions, but even *AMD* is now telling you that such a time is coming, if you'd only read between the lines a little, to say nothing of looking at roadmaps, sample benchmarks, etc. |
