Ann, apparently you either misunderstand my point or are just ignoring it. Maybe most of the time with polygamy there is some element of force or coercion, or brainwashing or dictatorship, but they aren't an inherent part of polygamy. If you don't get it after this post I'll drop it because it really isn't that important of point. If polygamy tends to result in very negative things than there is still no reason to look at it positively just because in theory it could be otherwise.

OTOH while I'm against polygamy, I only think it should be a legal matter if it pertains to fraud of some sort, or if there is abuse. If someone pretends not to get married and "marries" someone else, that is fraud. If someone gets two marriage licences that would involve giving false information to the government. If someone marries underage girls or clearly coerces someone in to a polygamous relationship than it should also be a legal issue, but if a group of people accept polygamy, and a 2nd and 3rd wife (or in the much rare case of polyandry a 2nd and 3rd husband) live together and consider themselves married but aren't legally married, and there is no fraud or abuse than I don't think the family should be legally persecuted for it. I might not like that arrangement myself, and I might not even consider it to be a good arrangement for others, but I don't support using force to stop it.

Tim
