"Dell's problems have been coming for a couple quarters now, because they should've adopted AMD earlier. However, having NOT done so, there's little reason to do so NOW, with Intel about to retake the lead (both perf AND perf/W) in many segments."

The consumer has discovered that there is a CPU environment outside the stifling domain of Dell/INTC and methinks that this now enlightened consumer base has gained critical mass, and consequently AMD momentum is in its early stage. The phase you keep presenting, even if it pans out anywhere nearly as you are portraying (and, FWIW, I suspect that AMD has a few trump cards not yet played) is almost certainly a temporary phase.

AMD has led the way with Opteron, forcing INTC to rewrite its roadmap. The consumer has tasted AMD's innovative approach and enjoyed a pleasurable experience. It's going to be much more difficult for INTC to put the AMD genie back in the bottle now that it has escaped.

I can't help wondering what innovation that AMD is about to drop on the marketplace that will once again force INTC to reshape its roadmap...Maybe Turion X2's and 65nm DC's will provide some clue in this regard ;-)
