Hi Duke,

When I read the article early this morning, I read the last sentence and thought, "Yep, that's me:"

"Meanwhile, U.S. consumers appear more willing to buy at retail stores, where Dell has hardly any presence."

My previous notebooks that I paid for were ordered directly from Compaq [I'm putting the Gateway notebook I was given to the side right now--iut was a stop gap until I decided what I wanted to order]. The only desktop I ever purchased at a store was my first, an 8088 at a small computer store. All others, desktops (Deskpros) and notebooks (Armada line) were ordered from and mailed by Compaq.

This time? I really couldn't see a point in mail ordering something considering how cheap notebooks have gotten and how little advantage I could see getting anything better via ordering direct.

I got a Toshiba M45-S355 after returning a similar priced HP with lousy speakers.

Lynn
