Border Security-National Guard
NBC: Bush may deploy Guard along U.S. border
President to address nation on immigration Monday as Senate nears deal
--
WASHINGTON - As the White House prepared for President Bush to address the nation on immigration, sources told NBC News on Friday that the Pentagon could deploy as many as 5,000 National Guard troops to the country’s southwest borders to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

--
The deployment of military troops to stem the flow of more illegal immigrants could be a way to ease that opposition.

The legislation includes provisions for additional border security, a new guest worker program and eventual citizenship for many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country.

LRAD has been cited as one of the best tools for augmenting and implementing border security, and is currently in use.

"Law enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security are currently using LRAD for their force protection challenges. DHS' Border, Transportation and Security Directorate (BTS) is including LRAD in its Arizona Border Control Initiative. According to Dr. Charles McQueary, DHS Under Secretary, Directorate of Science and Technology, "the LRAD is one of the most promising existing technologies that S&T has introduced that could transition to BTS on a larger scale.""

And then there's ERAD...A larger, more powerful Extended Range Acoustic Device (ERAD), can also be used to support very long distance communications for the critical infrastructure, including border security.
