It would be a strong positive if demand was high at those prices. Of course if Turion demand was strong at Intel level pricing AMD wouldn't be selling single-core Turion at a such a huge discount compared to Pentium M.

Turion X2 might find a niche with the low-end 1.6GHz 256KB part. While it should perform worse than any Core Duo part it will probably be priced lower than any of the Core Duo CPUs. It looks like the equivalent of a Sempron X2.

Re: "Could" and "I believe" are the operatives in the above statement.

Let's just wait for the Turion X2 unveiling before hypothecating too much on how it will fare.


I was expressing opinion about future events which is pretty common for an investment board. :-)

I won't be too surprised if Turion 64 X2's kick off isn't accompanied by several significant design wins.

I would certainly hope so. Even though Merom is three months away it already has over 100 design wins according to Intel at their spring analyst meeting.
