Intel has 2.26 Billion in Debt.

Also, Intel 9.12 Billion in Cash.

NET Debt matters. Structure of debt matters. And the totals matter also, and the incremental net debt needed for each increase in GDP. But just comparing total nominal debt to the size of the economy is not very informative.

Debt minus cash and recieveables versus GDP is a much better measure of the debt burden.

Author of this needs to review Accounting 101.

I really doubt the actual numbers for Japan are that much smaller, just that they have "netted out" many of the internal keiretsu /zaibatsu loans, so the numbers look MUCH better. It can be difficult to get good numbers from Japan.

The US has a higher use financial structures which intermediate debt than any other country, so the gross numbers will be higher.

And yes, there is consideralbe additional risk with rising rates. Which is why people hedge, or make sure there is a margin of safety (profit) in their transactions.

If Mr. Hodges really believes this, maybe he will by my gold for $40,000 an ounce, since that's less than the $55,000 price that will let the Federal Government pay off all that 44 Trillion....

Buy low courtesy of Gordon Brown, Sell high to Mr. Hodges.

I find other's financial illiteracy to be very profitable.
