More on TI chip

Got this from SteveG:

Here's the concern (from around the industry) with C6X for DMT: it still looks too big,
too much power, and too high cost. A general purpose DSP approach takes MUCH
more power and many times more transistors than an optimized chipset approach Even
though TI has very advanced silicon processes (.25um now, and .18um in the next
year), C6X still doesn't look quite as good as more optimized approaches in .5um (4X
bigger than .25um), or .35um (4X bigger than .18um).

On the plus side - besides speed, is it's programmability / upgradeability. Clearly a chip
to watch, but I doubt that the C6X will be a mass deployed DMT solution in the
*near* future.
