Jim, I believe you and I are mostly on the same page in this. I agree on fully supporting the Fourth Amendment. I don't see this information gathering as coming even close to violating the Amendment. Telephone companies have, for years and years, been compiling this info on calls made. I can't see the slightest reason for proper government agencies not having access to this. As the President tried to explain, no mining is being done. No conversations are being taped, etc. And when a conversation DOES get taped, I'm reasonably confident that has been done with proper warrants in hand.

When the computer discovers I call the same number in Florida (from Colorado) once or twice a week, they will soon learn my brother answers the Florida phone and will stop spending money on us. No harm done. But if al-Quaida started answering that phone, I'd expect a visit from a badge.
