IBM's technology relates to the interconnect between transistors on
the silicon. Copper is faster than Aluminum. So if the interconnect
is the limiting factor in terms of speed, then this is a possible scenario affecting CYMER:
- Companies could stay on the older process (.35u) using copper
as their interconnect between trasistors. This could potentially
be as fast or faster than migrating to .25u or .18u process
using Aluminum wiring. If this is the case then companies might
delay migration to .25u or lower processes, thus hurting CYMI.
