"Every object in the Universe attracts every other object with a force directed along the line of centers for the two objects that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the separation between the two objects."

That explanation is at best deceptive in light of new knowledge.

It seems it would be more accurate to say that as the expansion of the universe accelerates, each mass deforms the spacetime in which it sits proportional to the square of the distance between them.

A lot of physicists have been frustrated trying to find some mechanism of attraction between masses when there is none.
