American oil companies make nine cents per gallon. Nine cents!

The government makes 45 to 62 cents per gallon!

You're comparing profit [oil companies] to revenue [government]. Gas taxes are collected for the construction and maintenance of roads. If you would like the government to get completely out of road and bridge construction and maintenance then we could easily eliminate that revenue.

Otherwise, if you want to make a fair comparison you should figure out how many total dollars are collected in gas taxes and subtract how much is spent on roads and bridges. If there's anything left, divide that be the number of gallons sold for the proper comparison.

My guess is that you're not going to figure that out...as in "hell will freeze over" first.

P.S. I put in the reference to "hell..." in the hopes that would motivate you to prove me wrong. I think it would be interesting to see and I'm not going to do it.
