You have some excellent points. One problem is that our labor laws induce distortions into the market. As low as it seems, the minimum wage keeps some people out of the market. Our extended unemployment insurance keeps may able bodied people out of the workforce. Disability fraud also reduces the number of available workers.

One point though slave labor is not paid a wage. Indentured servitude is paid a wage which is withheld to repay a debt. Criminal trespassers constitute another type of labor. Some pay for skillfully forged documentation. Others exist on the fringe of employment.

If we enforced our employment laws, it would encourage many of them to return to the country of their origin and try to enter legally. We would want to increase immigration quotas to facilitate this. Right now breaking and entering is the best bet for many Mexicans to improve their lives.
