Apparently that battleship is nothing special. It's not like it's of great historical import. Also, SF harbor is already crammed with parked vessels and I believe there's already some kind of Naval museum there. It's expensive aquatic real estate and the citizens of the city have a perfect right to deny some rusted old destroyer from becoming an eyesore. It if were a big tourist dollar generator I'm sure they'd agree in a micro-second. So it's not about being anti-military, though many in that area of the country are pacifists. It's mainly about economics.

So if you really care, raise 10 million bucks and buy a slip and a ship. Park it there and see if you can make your money back.
