TOKYO, Sept 22 (Reuter) - Compaq Computer KK, the Japanese
unit of Compaq Computer Corp (NYSE:CPQ), announced on Monday that
it had cut prices of its DESKPRO series personal computers in
Japan by up to 24 percent.
The price cuts were made possible by the introduction of a
made-to-order sales system, Compaq Japan said, which has allowed
the company to boost efficiency and cut back its inventories.
Compaq Japan also said it will start shipping NetPc, a
stripped-down computer that is compatible with Windows but does
not have a CD-ROM drive, at the end of September.
