I don't see how Bush is closer to the political center if he never garnered more than 51% of the vote, and his ratings fell much, much lower after that last vote. Strikes me as wishful thinking but we are coming at this from different angles - you are placing him in your ideal political spectrum and I am working backwards from who supports him or not.

The former and a buck will get you a cup of coffee on election day.

As for who posts on this thread, I have done my best to be inhospitable to the most intolerant or abusive posters. I have said many times that the ideological spread here is wider than I ever envisioned, but it works as a discussion thread so I left the standards wider.

I wonder how many disenchanted conservatives there are on SI who simply don't bother to post about politics any longer. Having more people from the "polite right" would enhance the discussion. We only have some wayward libertarians at the moment, plus the occasional right-leaning figure to remind me how far I am out of the mainstream, LOL.

If you ever see your "real political center" starting to gel around a real cause or candidate, I would be interested to hear more about it.

PS Coming from middle America and going back often, I stay in touch pretty well. Most folks I know are disenchanted and confused by what has happened in Bush's second term.
