Looks like guidance beats estimates for Q3, so I am not sure why it is selling off, especially as they explicitly said they see a strong 2H. Can only assume it has to do with orders?!?!

Applied Materials sees Q3 EPS of 28-30 cents
Tue May 16, 2006 5:02 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO, May 16 (Reuters) - Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) expects to earn 28 to 30 cents per share in its third quarter, including 3 cents worth of charges from stock-based compensation, Chief Financial Officer Nancy Handel said on Tuesday.

Applied Materials, the world's top supplier of equipment used to make microchips, said it expected quarterly revenue to rise 5 to 10 percent from the second quarter's $2.25 billion, Handel said in a conference call.

Orders in the third quarter were also expected to rise 5 to 10 percent over the second quarter, when they were $2.49 billion, Handel said.

Wall Street analysts had been expecting Applied to show a third quarter net profit, including items, of 27 cents per share, on revenue of $2.35 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.
