Odd to me how you can find the overwhelming evidence for human self awareness to be suspect but have no problem making such a claim for another species.

That's not where I am.

There may be a test that demonstrates how a dog is self aware but I haven't heard about it.

What is the difference between self-awareness and Cogito, ergo sum? Are they equivalent. Does one prove the existance of the other? If I think am I self-aware and if I am self-aware do I think?
