Oh please. Russia was our ally in WWII. Yes we allied with one evil power against another one. Also the USSR only became our ally because Hitler stabbed them in the back and invaded them. Earlier Germany and the USSR had cooperated. Fighting on the same side as the USSR in WWII doesn't make their past to that point go away. The communists killed millions of people before WWII started. Also the USSR made agreements with Germany to carve up Poland, to no attack each other, etc. As for the great depression, the reason why the economic down turn was so bad and lasted so long had a lot to do with heavy tariffs, 90% incomes taxes, price regulation, and other government actions. There had been many severe downturns before the great depression but while the "Panics" of the 1800s could be severe, the economy pulled out of them comparatively quickly. The difference was the heavy hand of government was not weighed down on industry and commerce in the 1800s the same way it was in the 1930s. Tim
