reading the article it appears enough troops on the ground goes right to Powell and company. they were schooled, you win battles by overwhelming the enemy. If the enemy has 100,000 troops you go in with 300,000 troops. I believe that has been the history of west point etc for ever.

I think they pushed Iraq because support internationally was weak esp. at the United Nations. Yes, Bush speech and Powell's presentation with the NSA? dare i think ease dropping of calls over the Iraq radio where officers were getting wmd ready for battle, won over the united nations. Powell said it was his worst moment when he finds out it was lacking substance.

With the count down Bush Adm push faster, moving in place before several nations support one more article to go back into iraq to find wmd. Turkey suddenly backs out of giving support to troops coming across its border.

Adm could have held off for the troops to come around and help in the invasion instead Gen. Franks attacks with surprise to Saddam. I expect during this whole time the Army was and still is in turmoil over troop movement.

I also expect those that objected where over ruled not necessarily by adm but by their leaders in command at pentagon. Franks in interview with Chris Matthews denies anyone holding his feet to the fire with less troops. not showing dirty laundry is what happens in any large group. you voted but your vote in not as significant as the men at the very top. once voted you keep quiet and join the group or lose rank within the group or quit.

for example, i can remember many times with major projects programmed the programmers, and users would say the project is not ready to go live it will blow up. However, at top management the word is we are ready to go. It happens all the time and we get a lot of leaders right from the military.

if adm waited six more months to build up sufficient troops to invade Iraq they most likely would have lost support of any invasion.

Of course the above is only my opinion of the early actions taken over Iraq. The hit them quick succeeded in getting to Baghdad but it extended the war by years and cost us big time in injuries and death of soldiers.
