Nhiem, what do you mean by "doing it for years"? Are you suggesting that TI has "for years" been using microscopic copper wiring in their products in a way that has overcome the problem of the copper bleeding onto the silicon and contaminating it? I'd be interested to know what products they have that are using this approach.

A lot of companies are probably investigating the approach and have come up with patents of various sorts. Sematech and Intel have made progress, but IBM is actually producing the chips on a pilot line and has a 1-2 year lead on the competition, according to a Dataquest analyst quoted in today's NYT.
