Good points - but I don't see any way that someone could stand up and say I am as conservative as Bush or moreso and I want your vote and get 51% tomorrow, even if they seem incredibly competent. And I don't think anyone on the same ideological pole as Bush would believe in transparency over executive power so that is moot.

When people say they don't like the direction the country is going instead of simply they don't approve of the current leadership, inferring that they want another direction seems fairly obvious. We know the hardcore conservatives are 20% or less of the US population.

So I am inferring that this large majority wanting another direction are looking back toward the center. It seems much less likely they really want a more competent, transparent conservative. That's what Bush looked like when he ran for president both times and how much of the vote did he get?

FWIW, I watch how the right has created a world where anything that is not to the right is to the left, vacating the center completely, and marvel at their power to inject more polarization into the electorate. It's like the old loud left's "if you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem" BS tactic.

SSDD for those who saw or read Dreamcatcher.
