But the tax bill he cited came three years after the Great Depression began. Under a Republican president too.

The tariff increase was at the beginning of the depression.

In any case I didn't say that the tax increases started the downturn, they made it worse and made it last longer.

Speculative bubbles happened time and time again in our history, and they eventually popped. Only one of collapses resulted in the great depression.
