Hence the sudden Bush interest in the Mexican border and the dispatching of the troops...anything to stay in power.

This issue has been brewing for weeks, if not months now.. Hell, it's about all my father had to say to me a month ago when I went out to visit him.. And I consider him to be a pretty good "pulse" on the heart-beat of the masses...

So Bush FINALLY had to choose a side, or be damned no matter what.

I don't think he's particularly keen on having US troops "officially" on the border (there have always been some guardsmen doing counter-drug assistance there).

It's politically embarrassing, and creates unwanted friction with Mexico, as well as heightening potential repercussions with the hispanic community.
