It would help if they hadn't outed Valerie Plame. God knows what kind of shambles our CIA intel is in regarding Iran's WMD and nuclear programs now. It may be that we just don't know what's going on.

You see if you out one key CIA agent, then everyone he/she's connected with is also outed and compromised. So you could lose the entire operation. It's really a disaster and I can't believe hawkish Repubs give Bush-Cheney a pass on this.

But even if Iran is pushing ahead to get a nuke, they say it would take them eight years. So the alarmist mood is overblown. By then, with smart diplomacy and new leadership, we could neutralize Iranian distrust and fear. We'd also need Russia and China on our side. But Bush hasn't made it easy.

Remember, it was Bush's Axis Of Evil speech and invasion of Iraq which scared Iran into putting an extremist anti-American in charge in the first place. After 9-11 they were more or less ready to cooperate.

Now instead of cowering, they went the other direction, and now seeing us bogged down in Iraq, they are in a stronger position to hurt us than ever before. But if we redeployed out of Iraq, tensions would subside. Of course what woulod we leave behind? The Iraq War is really a FUBAR situation, and costs us enormously. Plus it helped double the price of oil, along with the gouging and other factors.
