Soumen,

The world will still be using oil for many decades to come, but oil's share of total energy production will decline steeply as alternatives come online.

Coal used to be the primary energy source of the industrialized world, until it was replaced by oil. But coal is still used today...

Hybrid cars, development of cellulosic ethanol, and the distributed production that will occur when the roofs on our homes become solar generators are other areas where progress is being made at a steady rate.

Remember, just 10 years ago not very many people used the internet...now most can't imagine life without being 'networked' via computer, cell phone and other gadgets.
