SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. A Honduran man arrested in Southampton, New York, for stealing an anti-immigration protest sign is facing deportation.

Authorities believe 19-year-old Joel Martines is in the U-S illegally.

Martines was arrested last Thursday after he allegedly stole a sign being carried by an anti-immigration protester outside a convenience store.

Southampton police say the site is popular with day laborers, many of whom are suspected of being in America illegally.

Immigration later determined Martines allegedly entered the U-S illegally in February of 2005 through Eagle Pass, Texas.

Martines is charged with the felony theft of the sign, plus is charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly giving police false information about his age and I-D.

Martines is scheduled back in court on the theft and I-D charges on May 22nd.
