Dell plans to use AMD, not just Intel, in servers

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 (Reuters) - Dell Inc. (DELL.O: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's largest personal computer maker, said on Thursday it will begin using Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) chips, ending its sole reliance on AMD rival Intel Corp. (INTC.O: Quote, Profile, Research) chips.

In a separate statement, Dell and AMD said Dell intends to use AMD Opteron Dual Core chips in multiprocessor servers due out later this year.
