Aftermarket movers: Dell & AMD gain
_______________________________________________

MAY. 18 5:10 P.M. ET / Dell Inc.'s shares rose in late trading Thursday despite its report of an 18 percent drop in fiscal first-quarter earnings, as the leading U.S. computer maker said it will start selling higher-end servers with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Opteron processors by the end of the year.

Round Rock, Texas-based Dell's results were hurt by stiff price competition from No. 2 maker Hewlett-Packard. But investors apparently liked the AMD news, sending Dell up 78 cents, or 3.3 percent, to $24.73 in aftermarket trading on the INET electronic exchange, after the stock ended the regular session at $23.95 on the Nasdaq.

Shares of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD also benefited, surging $3.95, or $12.6 percent, to $35.30 after hours on INET. The stock closed on the New York Stock Exchange at $31.35.
